The CETT Campus is full of activities to celebrate one of the most significant days of Catalan culture.

April 23rd is the celebration of Sant Jordi's Day, an event that needs no introduction in Catalonia. Sant Jordi is more than a national holiday: it is a living expression of the Catalan passion for reading, literary creation and the promotion of culture. Thus, the day is not only an opportunity to discover the latest publishing novelties and literary proposals, but also an occasion to look back and recover the great classics that have shaped our cultural background.

Catalan, as a Romance and European language of great trajectory and relevance, has a rich literary tradition that helps us to understand Catalan society throughout its history. As Rovira i Virgili said: “We love no treasure as much as we love our language”.

Tribute to Llibre de cuina Sent Soví

In this line, and considering that we are in the year in which Catalonia is World Region of Gastronomy, it is especially appropriate to remember one of the most precious testimonies of the Catalan language and gastronomy for its uniqueness and antiquity: the Llibre de Sent Soví.

This recipe book, dated from the 14th century, is considered the first preserved recipe book of Catalan cuisine, and one of the oldest in Europe. The manuscript gathers recipes with a clear Mediterranean influence and transports us to the daily life of medieval Catalonia through the products of the land and medieval culinary techniques, showing once again that gastronomy is a cultural expression.

Its reading and vindication puts in value the cuisine as an essential part of our cultural identity through the close link between literature and cuisine. For this reason, from CETT, we make it visible in the framework of Sant Jordi to highlight the close link between these two forms of cultural expression.
