GCCiG Offer, request and award of external internship
The external internship, is a training activity carried out by students and supervised by Career Services, with the aim of applying and complementing the knowledge acquired in the academic training, while favouring the acquisition of skills that prepare them for the exercise of professional activities.
Internships can be carried out in national and international companies and institutions.
Because of the training nature of the internships, under no circumstances may they give rise to any obligations of an employment relationship, nor may they lead to the substitution of the work provided by the jobs.
In the case that at the end of the university studies the student joins the workforce of the company or institution where he/she has done the internship, this will not be counted for the purposes of seniority, nor will it exempt the student from the probationary period, unless expressly stipulated in the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Scope of application
The following are eligible for an external internship:
- Students enrolled in any of the EUHT CETT-UB's undergraduate degree programmes.
- Students from foreign universities, in accordance with international programmes that allow them to be academically linked to the UB.
Structure of the Work Placement
The Practicum is the subject that allows students to put into practice the theoretical knowledge they acquire at the university and their professional skills. Through the external internship you get to know the labour market and start your professional career. You are encouraged to use the external internship to explore your profession and clarify what you want to specialise in.
The minimum duration of the external internship is 150 hours and the maximum is 900 hours.
Students must complete three mandatory internship periods:
INITIATION INTERNSHIP IN GASTRONOMY (6 ECTS) |
This will be the student’s first contact with a real company. It should mark the beginning of professional socialization as well as an introduction to the sector. The goal of these initial internships is to consolidate the basic technical competencies related to culinary preparations and processes. After completing and passing the initiation internship subject, the student will choose a specialization within the degree in one of two tracks:
The second and third internships must be completed within the same chosen specialization. Students from vocational training programs with adapted initiation internships will need to complete both the initiation and specialization internships within their selected track. |
INITIATION INTERNSHIP IN THE SPECIALIZATION (6 ECTS) |
This second internship should serve as a reflection on professional practice, enabling students to acquire and develop skills, attitudes, and competencies, as well as to gain initial experience in the field of their chosen track.
For Haute Cuisine and Gastronomic Innovation, the internship involves gaining experience in areas such as commercial catering, restaurant chains, hotel catering, and haute cuisine. For Culinary Management and Innovation in the Food Industry and Collectives, the internship involves gaining experience in the professional field of collective or social catering and the food industry. It is recommended to undertake this internship during the third year of the degree. |
ADVANCED SPECIALIZATION INTERNSHIP (6ECTS) |
This is an opportunity to deepen and consolidate the professional competencies specific to the chosen specialization. It represents the final step before the student enters the job market. Completing this internship during the fourth year of the degree is recommended. |
Offer, Dissemination, Application and Awarding of Internships
Career Services is responsible for establishing the criteria for the offer and selection of students and companies or institutions.
Once enrollment has been formalised, it is advisable that approximately one month before the desired date for starting the internship, students start looking for internships according to availability and professional interests.
The student may look for a company where to do the internship on his/her own. In this case, the student will agree an internship programme with the company [1] that must be validated by Career Services.
On the other hand, the student can consult the internship offers managed by Career Services through the Internship Exchange on the Virtual Campus.
